New Years here in Amsterdam starts with seeing lines forming at the Olibollen stands (the Dutch holiday doughnut), sounds of church bells ringing at odd hours of the day (is there something significant about 11:40am that I'm not aware of?), and then a cacophony of crackers being set off in the street, starting in the morning and then reaching their crescendo at midnight. It's becoming a familiar routine and I love it.
Happy Oudjaarsavond! All the best for a marvellous 2014.
