Lost in Translation

I just came across this very handy page of Dutch-English sewing term translations whilst attempting to see if “medium weight interfacing” had a Dutch counterpart. Thank you so very much, Naaipatronen.nl!

The woordenlijst list can be found here.

I must say, I have developed an incredibly eclectic Dutch vocabulary. By three years in most expats have a good grasp of how to exchange pleasantries, ask for directions and the like, however I have a whole dictionary of different wood types thanks to my Dutchman’s adventures, and a catalogue of words that help me navigate the knutselwinkel at the end of my street!

Oh, and “interfacing” in Dutch is tussenvoering. Which I totally understand, seeing as tussen means “between” and voering is the word for “lining”. Yay for compound words!
